| ROTOBOND RL-15.60 - Polyurethane
Adhesives
TECHNICAL DATA SHEET |
ROTOBOND RL-15.60 is a two component,
solvent based adhesive specially developed for lamination
of various substrates used in packaging industry. Important
feature of RL-15.60 is that it is based mainly on high
molecular weight polyester polyol with low hydroxyl
value based resin. It is general purpose adhesive giving
good bond strength with fair chemical and heat resistance.
Typical properties of adhesive are as follows : |

| Solvent |

|

| Solids |
: 60 ± 3% |
50 ± 3% |
Mixing Method :
The adhesive and hardener are mixed in 100 : 12 proportion
on weight basis. Generally, adhesive is first diluted
to about 25% solids by taking about 41 parts by weight
of adhesive and 59 parts by weight of Ethyl Acetate
(Urethane grade) and mixed slowly under slow speed stirrer.
To this diluted adhesive 5 parts by weight of hardener
is added (i.e. to 100 parts diluted adhesive 5 parts
hardener). For higher heat and chemical resistance in
stead of 5 parts of hardener, 6 to 6.5 parts hardener
can be added in 100 parts of diluted adhesives. Care
should be taken so that no moisture or OH terminated
material contaminates the product. The mixing place
should have good ventilation. Replace the lid of the
container properly.
Coating Method :
The adhesive is coated on suitable web by gravure roller.
Of the two webs to be laminated, the web which does
not get stretched or crumpled should be coated with
adhesive.
Drying :
Thorough removal of the solvents is absolutely necessary
for good lamination. Temperature required for drying
is 70-80º C for 6 to 10 seconds depending upon the length
of the oven and machine speed.
Lamination Process :
After the adhesive is dried, the coated web is laminated
to the other web on the lamination head.
Roller Cleaning :
After the lamination run is over, remove the adhesive
from the tray. Clean the coating roller with thinner
thoroughly. No trace of adhesive should remain on rollers.
Disposal of the Adhesive:
The left over adhesive should be dumped in a pit away
from the main factory building. All the vessels used
in the preparation and handling of the adhesive should
be thoroughly cleaned.
Storage of Adhesive and Hardener :
Should be stored in a dry place and at 25º to 30ºC normal
temperature. Under no circumstances, the lid of the
container should be loosely placed, otherwise moisture
will seep through and will severally affect the contents.
|
Application :
ROTOBOND RL-15.60 is suitable for lamination of various
type of webs. Typical combinations are :
|
| Polyester / Polythene
|
Polyester / Foil
/ Polythene. |
|
| BOPP / Polythene |
Cellophane / Polythene,
etc. |
